A native of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva has spent the last nine years as an envoy to UNESCO on behalf of her country. As a permanent delegate, she has worked with the organization to enhance international respect for all of the world’s cultures. To this end, Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva works to increase awareness of Uzbekistan’s history, traditions, and unique culture.:

You Are Not Alone Foundation

In addition to her responsibilities with UNESCO, Ms. Karimova Tillyaeva has dedicated much of her career to supporting children’s charities in Uzbekistan. She launched her first charitable organization in 2002, when she founded the You Are Not Alone Foundation. Through the organization, she has supported countless local orphanages and children in need. Among the many accomplishments of the foundation, it has completed renovation projects for Mercy Home orphanages throughout Uzbekistan. Under her leadership, the foundation also collaborates with its partner organization, the Islam Karimov Foundation, on other projects that benefit at-risk children.

Centre for the Social Adaptation of Children

In 2004, Ms. Karimova Tillyaeva continued her philanthropic work by opening the Centre for the Social Adaptation of Children (NCSAC). This organization provides free services to children who are living with disabilities, assisting them with medical care, speech therapy, physical therapy, and educational support. The charity has helped more than 7,500 children.

Gymnastics Federation of Uzbekistan

For more than a decade, Ms. Karimova Tillyaeva has divided her time between her charitable work and her responsibilities as president of the Gymnastics Federation of Uzbekistan. She has also served as honorary president of the General Assembly of the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU).

Timur Tillyaev

Ms. Karimova Tillyaeva is married to businessman Timur Tillyaev. Together, the couple recently produced a documentary, Ulugh Beg: The Man Who Unlocked the Universe, which tells the story of the famed 15th century astronomer and Central Asian ruler.

Studies

A graduate of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent, Ms. Karimova Tillyaeva holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international law. She also earned her doctorate in psychology from Tashkent State University.
